WindEnergy Hamburg 2022 | Day 2
Policy dominated the opening day of WindEnergy Hamburg as wind power’s role as a critical European strategic industry came under the spotlight.
Top politicians and executives told the event that key wind technology manufacturing and supply must stay in Europe, or the continent risks creating a new form of external energy dependency just as it attempts to wean itself off Russian gas.
The need for strong European action also extends to the fledgling green hydrogen sector, delegates heard, as industry leaders pointed to the “massive support” offered by the US’s landmark Inflation Reduction Act.
And while policy ambition is a central driver for renewables growth, Vattenfall offshore wind chief Catrin Jung warned that the slew of massive 2030 targets set for the industry is piling pressure on the supply chain, with some projects set to run into problems as a result.
